Frequently Asked Questions

Is the wheel truly random?

Yes. Each draw uses crypto.getRandomValues(), your browser's cryptographic random number generator — not the weaker Math.random(). The winner is selected before the animation starts, and every spin publishes a seed plus a SHA-256 fingerprint of the entry list so the draw is tamper-evident. See how fairness works.

Are my entries private?

Completely. Everything runs in your browser; entries are stored only in your browser's local storage and the picker makes zero third-party network requests (the banner ad is the only outside call, and it never sees your entries). Share links encode the wheel inside the URL itself — there is no server that ever sees your list. Read the privacy policy.

How do weights work?

Add *N after a name, e.g. Alice*3. Alice then occupies three times the wheel space of a weight-1 entry, and the live odds column shows the exact percentage for every entry. Malformed weights (like Bob*abc) are ignored with a gentle note rather than breaking your list.

What is elimination mode?

When enabled, each winner is automatically removed from the wheel after the spin — ideal for raffles, classroom turns, or drafts where nobody should win twice. Removed names appear in the Eliminated tray where you can put any of them back individually, or reset the whole wheel. The Undo button restores the last spin's removals.

How do share links work?

The Share button encodes your full wheel — entries, weights, and settings — into the link itself (after the #), plus a QR code for easy phone scanning. Anyone opening the link gets your exact wheel. Because everything is in the URL, links can get long with very large wheels; the practical limit is about a thousand entries.

Can I pick multiple winners at once?

Yes — set "Winners per spin" in Options (up to 100, capped by your entry count). One press runs a ranked sequence: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and so on. Combine it with elimination mode for a clean raffle draw.

Does it work offline?

After the page first loads, yes — there are no runtime network requests at all, so the wheel spins fine on dead venue Wi-Fi. (Your browser still needs the page itself, so load it before you go offline.)

Is FairSpin free? What's the catch?

Free, no catch: no accounts, no premium tier, no analytics — just one small banner ad. It's a static website with no running costs per user, which is exactly why it can stay free forever.

Can I use it for a legally binding lottery or gambling?

No. FairSpin is a decision helper, not a licensed lottery or gambling system. For anything with legal or significant financial stakes, use a licensed draw system.
